Course Description

Build confidence to respond to small workplace fires using extinguishers safely and in line with emergency procedures.

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to undertake a first response to a fire in the workplace. Participants learn to identify hazards, select and use appropriate extinguishers, apply safe response techniques, and follow workplace procedures including raising alarms, evacuation triggers, and incident reporting.

Suitable for workers who may need to respond to an incipient stage fire using an extinguisher as part of workplace safety and emergency arrangements.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age: 18 years.
Prerequisites: No formal prerequisites. Workplace emergency role requirements may apply.
Language, literacy and numeracy: LLN assessment required. Support available where required.
PPE / equipment / IT access: PPE suitable for practical training is required. Device with internet access required if online learning is included.
Workplace or site access requirements: Physical capability required for practical extinguisher use activities, with reasonable adjustments available where appropriate.

Recognise and assess fire situations, including the identification of different types of fires and fuels
Determine appropriate actions according to procedures and within scope of own responsibilities

Theory assessment
